In Spirit

Jesus spoke about the relationship between our spirit and the truth.

The Father is looking for those who will worship Him, “In spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23)

Beloved, both truth and spirit are the foundations that our relationship with God is based on. The truth is the written Word of God, and the revelation that the Holy Spirit gives us. Our faith is based on both the truth and the spirit. Not just in spirit, not just in truth, but the combination of the two. The point is that we should not limit our relationship with God by only knowing Him with our intellect (truth). We also need to seek to spiritually experience and feel God. What would you think of a marriage relationship with someone that had no feeling, if you never felt anything for your husband, or if you never felt anything for your wife? No, relationships involve feelings, and feelings makes us alive! I am not saying we are to be led only by our feelings. But, what I am saying is that those that never feel anything—are missing something.

Jesus said,
“When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” John 14:20

The “know” that Yeshua is referring to in the previous Scripture (John 14:20) is to be intimately felt and experienced.

Beloved, I want to know Jesus in me and around me. I want to be conscious of God. I want to be aware of His love. I want to know who He is. I want to sense His glory. I want to experience His power. I want to know who I am to Him. All these things that I am describing—require an experience. They cannot just be in the mind, they have to be felt in our heart and spirit.

When Jesus went away, He told the disciples that He would send us the promise (the Helper) of the Father (John 16:7). Then He said that the promise of the Father is the Spirit, and the Spirit then would take of Him and reveal Him (disclose Him) unto us (John 16:13, 14). In other words, Jesus said: “I am going to send you the Spirit and the Spirit will make Me real to you. The Spirit will take of Me, My very nature, My very thoughts, My very heart, My very feelings and He will reveal them unto you.”

As a believer, one of our primary goals is to come into a greater realization of these realities in our lives. To not only know the truths of His Word, but to also realize that we can sense Him within and throughout our life. Beloved, we can truly experience God and His Son—in spirit.

“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
John 17:3
