Spiritual Warfare, Part 3

Share this:

“When the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek out David; and when David heard of it, he went down to the stronghold.” 2 Samuel 5:17

When David heard that he was under attack, he did not just passively sit there and let the enemy succeed – he responded. He did something; he went down to the stronghold. The word “stronghold” in Hebrew is metsudah, which means: a fortress, to fortify. King David went down into God’s fortress. David initiated – he answered the attack aggressively by taking action.

I have found that what often happens in our lives is that when we are under attack, we are passive and just let the enemy keep beating us up. Whether it is a mental or physical attack or a circumstance – sadly, God’s people frequently “put their heads in the sand” and hope it just goes away. But David went down to God’s stronghold and looked to the Lord. He began to pray. He began to encourage himself in the Word of God. He responded with vigilant determination to the attack by digging down deep into the Lord.

Beloved, God has not called us nor created us to be on the defense against the forces of darkness – but instead to be on the offense!

“The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8
Jesus/Yeshua diligently, actively, and aggressively came against the devil.

You and I need to recognize that when we are under siege by the enemy, we need to get in motion like David did and thwart it. When David heard of the adversary’s plan – he took action. He was in motion. He did something to shift the atmosphere. When you and I are under attack, we need to get in motion because motion will change our emotion. If we want to change the way we are feeling, if we want to change our emotions, then we need to be in motion. And by doing something – adjusting our attitude, shifting our focus, going into prayer, and declaring God’s Word we will change the spiritual atmosphere around us!

Father God, I pray that You would deliver Your children from passivity. Father, too many of us are just sitting and waiting for You to do something, while You are calling us to stand up and fight! I pray HaShem, that You would inspire us by imparting an “active” Spirit, to engage in spiritual warfare and fight the enemy. I pray that You would equip us to tear down any barriers and overcome any ploys of the enemy that are keeping us in darkness and keeping us from You and our destiny.
