Glorify God

Share this:

All of us that love God and have been drawn to the Father, through the Son and by the Spirit, have a supernatural hunger to experience the Father’s presence in our life. David put it this way:

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God.” Psalm 42:1

Beloved, God’s presence is so beautiful, so satisfying and is beyond anything that this world has to offer. Those of us that have been touched by His presence are so hungry to be touched again—in an even more profound and powerful way!
I know there have been certain times, in my life, that God has made His presence so manifest in my heart, that even though some of those instances were five, ten, fifteen, twenty years ago or longer, I still remember each of those experiences. Although some of those times lasted only for a second, they were so impactful, so powerful, that I never forgot them and I yearn for the Father’s next touch. Like David, each of us desires to enter into a deeper walk in which we are experiencing His presence in our everyday lives.

But, we need to realize that beyond our desire and above the importance of you and I experiencing God’s presence—there is something even more profound and more important. And, that is beloved, that we exist for God’s glory! Experiencing God’s presence is absolutely an awesome and beautiful thing. We want to experience God’s presence. But, beloved, there needs to be an awareness inside us that recognizes that there is something greater, and that is God’s glory.

God’s ultimate purpose, in everything that He does, is to glorify Himself. In fact, Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:6 that we have been saved “to the praise of His glorious grace.” In heaven there are divine beings worshiping Him day and night, crying out—“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty” (Revelation 4:8). We need to understand that the Gospel, which was once and for all delivered to us, was first and foremost about the glory of God. Not us first, not our desires first, not our needs first. Although we are loved and valued by the Father, what is most important is God’s own glory. If we are going to walk in greater fellowship and a greater experience of His presence, we need to recognize that our highest purpose is to glorify Him. Let us become like Jesus who said to the Father:

“I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.” John 17:4
