One of the holiest times on God’s calendar is called Yom Teruah. It is often referred to as the Feast of Trumpets, or in traditional Judaism—Rosh Hashanah (Head of the Year).
“Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD’” (Leviticus 23: 23-25).
What is it a reminder of?
The key can be found in the Book of Exodus.
“Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the entire mountain quaked violently. When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him with thunder” (Exodus 19:18-19).
The blowing of the cosmic trumpet from heaven speaks of the coming glorious reign of the Kingdom of God. We need to be alert and ready for this at all times, and The Feast of Trumpets is a divine season of remembrance for us all.
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16
Just as the sound of the shofar announced God’s descension on Mount Sinai in a dramatic display of power – Jesus’ return will be preceded in like manner. Again, when the trumpet reached a crescendo on Mount Sinai, God broke into the earth in majestic glory for all to see. So too, Yeshua will appear suddenly and dramatically from heaven at a final shofar blast that will be heard around the world. Praise Father!
Think about it: at that very moment, every eye will see Him. The Creator of the world will present Himself to His creation!
“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him” (Revelation 1:7).
My brothers and sisters, are we expecting His return? Our we preparing for it?
We should live every day in anticipation of the culmination of our faith – Jesus’ second coming. As we celebrate the Feast of Trumpets, let’s take the opportunity to rekindle our passion and desire to see Him. Let’s remind ourselves that our God is going to disclose Himself to the world again. Jesus is coming back for us soon. And what the Lord desires is for every generation to live with the mindset and expectation that Yeshua will return in our lifetime.
“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done” (Revelation 22:12).
Yes, come Lord Jesus!
Love & Shalom,
Rabbi
