Walk by Faith

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
—2 Corinthians 5:7

What exactly is faith? Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” That means faith, first of all, is to believe there is a God, even though we can’t see Him. God’s Word also teaches us that we should have faith in the fact that He rewards those who seek Him.

Some people find it hard to believe God exists, but isn’t it harder not to believe? When we look at creation, the evidence of God’s existence is all around us. In fact, Romans 1:20 tells us that God’s “invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.”

Sometimes a wound or hurt caused by the enemy creates a block in someone’s soul, but everyone deep down in their heart of hearts knows there is a God. When we hear the awe-inspiring crash of the ocean against the shore, when we look at the endless sky, we can’t help but see the obvious. Creation is God’s handiwork, and it reveals God’s power and nature.

Once we are confronted with the reality that God exists, we must choose whether to follow Him. That is the second element of faith. First we believe God exists, then we must act on that faith by doing what pleases Him and believing He will reward us.

I want to encourage you today to not only believe there is a God but also trust that He’s good and He loves you. He sees you; He’s watching you and has numbered every hair on your head. He’s closer to you than your own breath, and you exist in Him. Beloved, believe that He is and that He’s going to reward you for seeking Him.

Yes, Father God, I believe You’re real. I see proof of it in creation. I exercise my faith right now and believe that You love me. Thank You for being closer to me than my own breath. Help me to live my life in a way that pleases You and to diligently seek You.
