“I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread.”
—Psalm 37:25
Sometimes when we look around and see so much suffering and tragedy in the world, we don’t understand. But we can’t allow ourselves to believe what we see with our eyes and conclude that we can’t trust God. We must believe God’s Word. God’s Word tells us He will never desert us.
Often when people look at the suffering in the world, they say, “How could God let these things happen?” I don’t know the answer to that question, but I choose to focus on the Word of God. I want to seize His Word and not let what I see with my eyes confuse me. His Word tells me He loves His children and will take care of them. David said, “O God, You have taught me from my youth, and I still declare Your wondrous deeds. And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come” (Ps. 71:17–18).
We oftentimes have fears about the future. We fret and worry about circumstances we might face one day. But God is with us, and we can have confidence that He is going to be with us, taking care of us even until the end. Psalm 73:23 says, “Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand.” Think about how much worry we would break off our lives if we had the same confidence as the psalmist.
Beloved, let’s stake our hearts in the soil that God’s Word is true. He will never abandon His people. I want to encourage us today: let’s not doubt Father’s love!
Father God, You promised that You will never leave me nor forsake me. I put my confidence in Your Word, not in what I see happening around me. I will walk by faith, my Lord, not by sight. I trust Your wisdom, not my own. I will not lean on my own understanding. Father, You are my strength and my confidence. I will not fear bad news because my heart trusts You (Ps. 112:7). I will not fear, Lord, because I know You are with me.
