The Breath of God

Share this:

“Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”
—Genesis 2:7

Today’s verse reveals a simple but profound truth: God created you. You are more than the result of a cosmic, random explosion that happened millions of years ago. You were made on purpose for a purpose. God created you and me, and He placed His divine blueprint and His life inside us. How do we know that? The Book of Genesis tells us that Yahweh Elohim, the Lord God, the Creator of the universe, made us in His own image and breathed His life into us.

The apostle Paul prayed that God’s people would know “what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints” (Eph. 1:18, emphasis added). Beloved, there is something in you that is so sacred, so special, so rich, and so much bigger than your human flesh. Your physical body doesn’t even begin to manifest the reality of who you are. What’s inside you is so much greater and more beautiful than your physical self.

If we live long enough, our bodies are going to begin to degenerate and eventually wear out. But our bodies are not who we are. God breathed His very life into us. He created us with an immortal soul that has His imprint in it, and beyond this, those of us who have received Jesus have been given the gift of the Ruach HaKodesh. God’s Spirit now literally lives inside us, and we are partakers of His divine nature.

Eye has not seen and ear has not heard, neither has it ever entered into the heart of man the things that God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Cor. 2:9). Beloved, let’s stay focused on HaShem and who we are in Him. No one can define you but God. You are His child, and God’s Spirit, not a cosmic accident, is the source of and reason for your life.

Father God, I know my life is not an accident. I was made in Your image, and Your life flows through me. You made me fearfully and wonderfully. I pray that the eyes of my heart will be enlightened, so I will know what is the hope of Your calling and the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in me, Your child. Father, help me to know how precious I am to You and to live out the purpose for which I was created. In Yeshua’s name, amen.
