“When the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek out David.” Samuel 5:17

Beloved, supernatural people attract opposition! When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed, they immediately came up against him. Likewise, when we are walking deeper in the spirit, and operating in a greater anointing, the powers of darkness are going to resist us. The enemy will attack us. We have to realize this and “wake up” to this reality. So often we attribute the source of things that go wrong in our life and the challenges that we are facing – to natural explanations. But we need to understand that the battle that we are in is not primarily against flesh and blood – it is supernatural.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:12

We witness the intentions of darkness against David in Samuel’s description- “all the Philistines went up to seek out David.” Why was David targeted? Because David was anointed. Oftentimes when you and I move forward in the anointing, when we progress in the spirit, and are going deeper in the Lord – our adversary will try to stop us by attacking. Why? Because we have become a greater threat to the kingdom of darkness!

I remember many years ago, as a brand-new believer, I read in the Book of Hebrews that the “Lord is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).” A day or two after reading this, I said, “I’m going to spend today seeking God, and He is going to reward me.” All day long, for probably 12 hours, I sat on a chair with my Bible in my hand, reading, praying, and listening to worship music. Afterward, I got into my bed and went to sleep.

What happened that night was horrific. I was attacked by a spirit that was more violent, hostile, and angrier than anything I have ever encountered in my life. It was that evil. When I got up the next morning, I remember the enemy tempting me with the thought, “If this is what happens when you pursue God – maybe you better not seek Him like that anymore or this will happen to you again.”

This was exactly what the enemy wanted. He intended to stop me from moving forward in the anointing. He wanted to halt me from advancing in God by scaring me. Beloved one, the point that I am making is that you and I need to understand that when we are moving forward in God, we are going to receive resistance from the forces of evil – but we must never let the enemy win.
