“My soul cleaves to the dust; revive me according to Your word.”
— Psalm 119:25
Sometimes when I wake up after having a fitful night’s sleep, I think, “Wow, I don’t feel like I slept at all last night.” And I wish I could just stay in bed.
But I have found that when I spend time with the Lord, worshipping Him and reading His Word, my soul supernaturally will begin to feel revived. Even if I woke up feeling kind of down and sluggish, as I get into God’s Word, I am renewed.
David said in Psalm 119:25 that he was revived by the Word of God, and that is absolutely what the Word does. God’s Word is “living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword” (Heb. 4:12). It brings life to us. This is why I always encourage people to spend time with God first thing in the morning.
When we do this, we are practicing what I call the Law of Firstfruits. This law challenges us to give God our first and our best—whether it’s the first of our finances, the first of our talents, or the first of our time.
You see, whenever the children of Israel had a harvest, they took the first of the yield and presented it to the Lord. And because they gave to God first, the rest of the harvest was considered sanctified. I believe that same principle is at work today. When we give the first part of our day to God upon waking up in the morning, the rest of the day becomes more blessed as a result.
Beloved, God’s Word revives. So I challenge you to always give God the firstfruits of your day. Doing so will bring blessing to your life and revive your soul.
Father God, help me to give You my first and my best. Bless this day as I give You the firstfruits of my time. Help me to always seek You first because Your Word says that when I do, everything else will be added to me. Thank You, Father, for always being so good and gracious to me. Revive me today through Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
