No Condemnation

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
—Romans 8:1

This is an incredible reality—you and I can be assured that we are loved, forgiven, and accepted by God. Every second, every hour, every day, you and I are being embraced by the Father’s love. There is no condemnation from the Father toward us. In order for us to enter into a fuller dimension of this reality, we have to be very careful to guard our hearts to ensure that we do not condemn other people, because when we condemn others, we open a door in our lives for the devil to put thoughts of self-condemnation upon us.

This is why Jesus said, “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you” (Matt. 7:1–2). He said something similar about forgiveness, telling us that if we forgive others, our heavenly Father will also forgive us (Matt. 6:14).

Father’s grace is extended toward us, so there is no accusation. But in order to experience the fullness of this reality, we need to be very careful not to speak critically of others. And beyond our words, we need to guard against thoughts of condemnation, bitterness, ill will, and judgment. I know this is hard to do. We’re in a battle, and Satan is an accuser.

In my own life, I try to watch my attitude and thoughts about people because I know that if I allow myself to have ill will toward somebody, I’m hurting myself. And worse than that, I’m in agreement with an evil spirit and not fulfilling God’s call on my life. So, beloved, let’s pay attention to our thoughts and not allow ourselves to accuse or condemn others. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus and walk in love. As we do, we will experience freedom from accusation ourselves.

Father God, You have forgiven me, and I ask You to help me forgive others. Father, help me to guard my heart and mind to resist the thoughts of the devil, thoughts of accusation and condemnation. Father, I purpose instead to have thoughts of good will, grace, and love toward others, even as You have shown me love.
