His Gentleness Makes Us Great

“You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand upholds me; and Your gentleness makes me great.”
— Psalms 18:35

David said that Father God’s gentleness made him great, and oh, how true that is in the lives of His chosen ones. We are continually falling short of perfection, but the Father loves us so much, and He is so gentle toward us. He doesn’t judge us for not being perfect; He just keeps helping and strengthening us.

A parent doesn’t get mad or condemn an infant when the baby falls as he is attempting to walk. The parent keeps on loving the baby, encouraging and supporting the child. As time goes by, that baby gets stronger and stronger until he eventually begins to walk without losing his balance. Beloved, this is the same way Father God loves you and me. Micah 7:19 says, “He will again have compassion on us.” I want you to know that God’s mercy never fails. If you know Him, love Him, and have been chosen by Him, God’s faithfulness will never fail you.

When I look at my own life and see how kind and gracious God has been to me, it just melts my heart. If the Father had not saved and called me, my life would have ended in destruction. But God’s gentleness makes us great. How often have you looked back on your life and considered the wrong thoughts you had or the words you spoke in frustration or anger? Perhaps it wasn’t what you did but what you didn’t do, such as lacking gratitude.

Through it all the Father has continued to love and be gracious to you, and He will never stop.

I recently talked to a friend, and when I asked him how he was, he said, “Father God has been ridiculously gracious to me.” I love that expression because it is so true. God has been ridiculously gracious to us as He has poured out His lovingkindness on us.

God loves you. Run strong in His love.

Father God, I want to love You in a way that is worthy of who You are. Father, I ask You today to help me love You like Jesus loves You, because You said as He is, so also now are we (1 John 4:17). Father, thank You so much for loving me and being so ridiculously gracious to me.
