“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
— 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
The Bible makes it clear that we wrestle not against flesh and blood. We are battling “spiritual forces of wickedness” (Eph. 6:12). Demonic spirits gain access to our lives in a variety of ways. You may already know that you can open doors to these spirits when you come into agreement with sin and lies, and that sometimes demonic spirits run in families. But many people don’t realize that demons also gain access to our lives through fear.
Even as faith opens a channel for the Spirit of God to operate through you, fear opens up a channel for the powers of darkness to gain access to your life. The Bible tells us more than one hundred times to fear not. The Lord said not to call a conspiracy what the world calls a conspiracy, and “you are not to fear what they fear or be in dread of it.” Instead, “it is the Lord of hosts whom you should regard as holy. And He shall be your fear, and He shall be your dread” (Isa. 8:12–13).
When you fear God alone, He will become a sanctuary for you. In Him you will find peace and strength. And you can declare with David the promise in Psalm 27, “In the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord” (vv. 5–6).
Remember the words of the Father: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isa. 41:10). I want to encourage you to break fear off your life. Begin to take authority over it in the name of Jesus. And guard your heart against the spirit of fear. The more your words and thoughts fall out of sync with fear, the freer and freer you will become.
Father, in Messiah Jesus’ name I ask You to strengthen me. Teach me how to guard my heart from fear. I take authority over fear in the mighty name of Yeshua.
