“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.”
— Psalm 139:7-8
We love the entire Bible, but many of us, if we’re honest, have favorite parts. Psalm 139:7–8 is one of my favorite passages of Scripture because it lets us know that wherever we are, God is there. There is no place we can go in life where God is absent, so we never have to be afraid that we can be somewhere God is not. God will always be with us, no matter what happens to us in life.
Home is where God is, and because God is always with us, we can always be at home. If you’re afraid of something, remember that God is with you. Most of the things we fear pertain to the future. The problem is when we have anxious thoughts about the future, the element that is often left out of the equation is God. We do not consider that He will be with us in the situation. Let me give you an example to help you understand.
I heard about a woman who was fearful every single day that she was going to lose her job. For months she was afraid that her boss was going to fire her. I mean it kept her up at night. Then one day her boss called the woman into the office and fired her. But when she got fired, she had total peace. Why? Because when she got fired, God’s presence was with her.
You see, when we fear the future, God is usually absent from our thoughts. But God is going to be with you in your future, and when you are in the future with God’s presence surrounding you, you won’t be afraid. Jesus said, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20). He will never leave us nor forsake us (Deut. 31:6; Heb. 13:5).
There is no place you can go to get away from God. He is always with you.
Father, I thank You for being with me wher- ever I go. I cannot hide from Your Spirit, nor can I flee from Your presence. I thank You that You will never leave me nor forsake me. When I feel afraid, help me to remember that You are with me and always will be.
