You lay down to receive a well-needed time of rest and restoration to your body, but find that as you close your eyes, your mind and spirit are not in agreement with your wearied body. Though your body is positioned for sleep, your internal mind is racing with thoughts and your spirit is anxious and agitated. When I was a young adolescent, I began to experience this phenomenon at night. Through the years, the LORD revealed that He is the answer to this, and every, problem. Firstly, remember that we do not wrestle with flesh and blood, but against spirit and principalities (Ephesians 6:12). As a young adolescent, I began reciting the LORD’s prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) to myself when I laid down to rest at night. I would repeat it over and over and over again until there were peace and rest that came over my body and I found I was deep in sleep. To this day this helps me, but I have discovered additional methods of entering into God’s rest at night, as well. Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed with anxiety, I repeat four short words, “The Blood of Jesus.” I will not stop repeating these words until I find that the darkness and anxiety begin to flee, and I begin to feel light and hope, and I can move into pronouncing God’s word of hope over my life. Practice these principles of bringing Father’s love and peace into your body as you lay down to rest, and take back your sleep!
