“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment.” Philippians 1:9
Beloved, there is always more. We always want to keep on growing, especially in love. We should never get to the place where we stop increasing in love because the love of God is endless. What an awesome concept to grasp—the love of God expands forever, there is no end to it! It just gets fuller and fuller and fuller. Beloved, that is what heaven is going to be like for us. We are going to be experiencing more and more of God’s love—forever more. It is like walking into the ocean, and it just keeps getting deeper and deeper, until we become “consumed.” That is what the love of God is like for us beloved. And, because we are created in His likeness, and now have become members of Him through Yeshua, the Lord wants His love to keep on expanding and growing in our life. Again, Paul says,
“I pray, that your love may abound still more and more …” Philippians 1:9
Notice the double “more.” They already had love, but Paul says, “I want your love to keep on growing more and more.” This is a remarkable thing to realize. As you and I continue to focus on developing love and growing in love, we are actually expanding our capacity for releasing the love of God to everyone around us. As we pursue a deeper experience with Him, we then become a conduit of His love to the world. It is kind of like this: A body of water that has no way to flow out will become like a swamp: stagnant, foul, and polluted. But, a body of water that has an outflow, when the water is moving into a river; this body of water is going to stay useful, clean, and pure. And, in a similar way, we cannot be whom God desires us to be, a “river of love” to others, unless we have an outlet, an outflow, by which we are expressing, showing and demonstrating the true Biblical love of God that He is imparting into us.
“Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
