Have you ever sensed an unsettled feeling inside that is like a deep hole or craving that must be filled? Have you ever wondered what it was you were yearning for? Our Creator created us with these deep yearnings for our survival. The things that we hunger and thirst for, when taken into the body, will produce life. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “need” as, “something that a person must have: something that is needed in order to live or succeed or be happy.”
So what is it that we yearn for? We yearn for the experience of love, life, and identity. The LORD created us needy so that we would be driven to seek Him to meet these deep needs! Our problems result from seeking to meet these needs apart from Him and His wisdom. David, the Psalmist, cries out from places of deep need. “Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me. When You said, ‘Seek My face,’ my heart said to You, ‘Your face, O Lord, I shall seek.’” (Psalm 27:7-8). David discovered that the LORD was personal, loving, and had answered his prayers.
So whenever you feel lost and needy, remember, your neediness is a gift from God. He wants you to seek Him, find Him, and follow His ways of life. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me” (Revelations 3:20).
