“Yes, I am coming quickly.” -Jesus

One of the holiest dates on God’s calendar is called Yom Teruah. It is often referred to as the Feast of Trumpets, or in traditional Judaism – Rosh Hashanah (Head of the Year).

“Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD.’” Leviticus 23: 23-25

What is curious here is that we know we are to blow the trumpet as a reminder, but what is it that we are to remember?

The key can be found in the Book of Exodus.

“Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the entire mountain quaked violently. When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him with thunder.” Exodus 19:18-19

The blowing of the cosmic trumpet from heaven speaks of the glorious reign of the Kingdom of God.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16

Just as God descended on Mount Sinai in a dramatic display of power, that was preceded by the sound of the shofar- Jesus will also appear in like manner. When the trumpet reached a crescendo on Sinai, God came in His glory for all to see. So too, Yeshua will be announced from heaven by a cosmic, heavenly shofar that will be heard around the world.

At that very moment every eye will see Him. Even those who pierced Him. The Creator of the world will present Himself to His creation.

“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.” Revelation 1:7

But are we overflowing with an expectation of His return?

We should live every day in anticipation of the culmination of our faith – Jesus’ second coming. As we celebrate the Feast of Trumpets, let’s take the opportunity to rekindle our passion and desire to see Him. Let us take time out from our busy lives and remind ourselves that our God is going to disclose Himself to the world again. Jesus is coming back for us soon. And what the Lord desires is for every generation to live with the mindset and expectation that Yeshua will return in our lifetime.

“Come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 12:20
