“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up.”
—Psalm 27:10
Psalm 27 was written by David, who experienced rejection because of his love for Yeshua. David knew Jesus personally, as is referenced in Psalm 110:1 and Matthew 22:41–45.
As a Jewish believer in Yeshua, I can relate to these words David wrote. When I embraced Yeshua as Messiah, my parents felt they had to reject that part of me, and since Yeshua became everything to me, it was as if they were rejecting me. But Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man. Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven” (Luke 6:22–23).
In today’s verse, we see the tenderness of God’s relationship with David. Though he had been forsaken by his family, David knew that he was safe in the arms of his real and heavenly Father. Beloved, that is the kind of soft, tender relationship you can have with God. No matter who has forsaken you in life, no matter what you’ve been through in your past, the Lord will take you up. He won’t let you irrevocably stumble or fall.
A friend of mine once told me of a season in his life when he was going through a difficult time. He had given away all his money to follow the Lord, and he felt forsaken because he had nothing. But God came to him supernaturally, picked him up, and set him on a journey that led him into ministry. Today, he works with me, touching lives all over the world with the anointing Father has put on his life.
Beloved, when you’re forsaken—whether it be by your mother, your father, or a friend—know this: God will always take you up when you’re His. HaShem’s love for you will never fail.
Father, thank You for never leaving me nor forsaking me. Thank You for taking me up and never letting me fall. I am so blessed that You are my true Father forever and that because of You I will not fall. In Messiah Yeshua.
