So many times when I’ve needed direction, God has spoken to me supernaturally. Whether it was a slow, emerging awareness of what I should do; a sudden burst of supernatural anointing that brought insight; or a dream in the night, the Lord spoke to me with the spirit of counsel. I know this is why I have come so far since I accepted Yeshua as Messiah—because I have been upheld, consoled, and directed by the counsel of the Holy Spirit.

I want to encourage you to believe that God will personally counsel you. Oftentimes God’s people are not receiving the fullness of the counsel the Father has for them because rather than looking to the Father, they are looking, first and almost exclusively, to their friends for counsel. In other words, when faced with a problem, rather than looking to God about the issue, rather than praying about it, rather than expecting Father God to answer and direct us, they go out and tell all their friends, looking to them for solutions.

Please do not misunderstand me. There is wisdom in talking to people, and I have confidants in my life whom I seek for insight. After all the Bible says that “in the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Prov. 11:14, NKJV). But we must remember to look first and foremost to the Lord for wisdom.

Those who fear the Lord are going to receive the counsel of the Holy Spirit. It is part of His ministry to you. God wants to direct your path. Jesus said, “If you abide in Me, you will bear much fruit.” (See John 15:4–5.) So, beloved, direct your heart back to relying on Jesus for everything. God is in the here and the now, His counsel is practical, and He will make it known to those who seek Him.

Holy Spirit, thank You for being my Counselor. I know You use many resources to communicate with us, but help me to look to You first for wisdom, and strengthen me to wait for Your answer.
