“I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, “You are My Son, today I have begotten You.””
—Psalm 2:7
Psalm 2 is a Messianic psalm that gives us sight into both David’s (the psalm’s author) and Messiah Jesus’ heart. And what do we see? The resolve to “tell of the decree of the Lord”—to be bold witnesses for HaShem in the earth.
Psalm 19 tells us that the heavens and earth declare the glory of God, that they give forth speech. What words are they declaring? The stars above, the moon, the sun, and the seas—they’re all screaming out, “God is glorious! God is beautiful! God is alive and He is wonderful and good!”
You and I have been created to make His decrees known in the world as well. There’s no such thing as a silent believer, because when someone is passionately in love with God, His praise is going to just come out of their life as if by osmosis. They won’t be able to stop it because it’s naturally who they are.
Don’t let the enemy hold you back. Paul said, “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord” (2 Tim. 1:7–8). Wherever you go, wherever you are, let the praise of God radiate through your life. Don’t be afraid to say, “Praise the Lord” in public. Don’t be afraid to speak of Jesus or to give Him thanks openly.
Beloved, we are God’s witnesses on the earth. Let’s be like the psalmist in Psalm 2 and be beacons of light in the world. We were not meant to hide the gospel under a bushel somewhere. Jesus said, “I put you here to be lights in the earth. I put you on the hill so people can see your light.” Let’s speak of God’s goodness and not be afraid. Let’s not allow what anyone thinks stop us from letting others know about the goodness of God. Keep declaring His Word in the earth. Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid of rejection, and don’t let the enemy shut you down.
Father God, help me to shine bright in the earth. Let my life declare Your goodness. I will not be shy about praising You openly and giving You thanks in public. I will speak of Your goodness without fear.
