Bless the Lord, my soul,
And do not forget any of His benefits. Psalm 103:2

As I headed out the door to an appointment with my daughter, I glanced down to see on my watch that I was running late. The construction zone detours enroute to her office cause delays, and my heart sunk as I realized that I wouldn’t arrive on time, thereby messing up my daughter’s busy office schedule. “Oh LORD,” I cried, “how much I am always in need of Your help and grace!” As I approached the first intersection that began the detour my heart leapt to see that the construction and detour signs (which were just up the night before) had been removed and the roadway was wide open! I felt the Holy Spirit leap within me stating, “Surprise benefit!” Father had granted me, in love, a surprise benefit and I would not be late to my appointment!

When communing with the Holy Spirit about the miracle that had occurred, I realized that God’s “surprise benefits” surrounded me much more than I knew. The truth is that God’s love and activity are all around us! I learned from this that Father was calling me to look up to seek Him, watching for His surprise benefits that would assist me out of “roadblock” situations. 

As a son or daughter of the Most High God, we have been granted unending benefits. But are we daily looking, waiting and watching for them? We walk not through this life alone, but with a compassionate, shepherding God who wants to be involved each step of the way.
