Seize God’s Word

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”
—Isaiah 40:8

Many years ago the Lord spoke to me audibly. This doesn’t happen to me all the time, but it has happened a few times in my life, including on this particular occasion. I clearly heard the Lord say, “Seize My Word and don’t let anything else in.”

The word felt like a river of fire rolling through my soul. It was so powerful, yet I struggled with what God said. I asked Him, “What are You saying to me, Lord? How do I seize Your Word?” I thought, “This is Your Word right here, the Bible, and it is a big book. How do I seize the whole thing?” I couldn’t quite wrap my head around what God was saying.

But after some time this is what I came to realize. The grass withers, and the flowers fade—temporary circumstances of life come and go—but the Word in us will abide, and it will enable us to stand and be victorious in life. When we seize the Word, we won’t allow

ourselves to be moved by temporary things. Life is always changing. The situations in which we find ourselves are always going to change. So if we allow ourselves to become victims of our circumstances, we will end up on an emotional roller coaster and always weak in faith. But when we seize God’s Word and refuse to let anything else in, we will become strong, solid believers.

Jesus said, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63, NKJV). So if you are facing something in the natural that is making you anxious and fearful, remember that God’s Word said for you to fear not because He is with you (Isa. 41:10). Remind yourself to be of good cheer, for He has overcome the world (John 16:33). In other words, choose to believe His Word. Don’t allow what you see with your natural eyes to control your heart. Everything you see is temporary and will fade away. Beloved, make up your mind today to live not by what you see or feel but by the Word of God. I want to encourage you to begin each day by reading and seizing His Word.

Father God, I choose to put my confidence in You. I will not be moved by the temporary circumstances of life. I trust Your Word, for it is spirit, it is life, and it stands forever.
