“Humble yourself and you will be exalted.”
-Jesus

We are all familiar with the epic scene of Jesus making His “grand and triumphant” entrance into Jerusalem.

Instead of the pomp and circumstance expected of a king, Yeshua enters the Old City – riding a donkey.

“SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, ‘BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, HUMBLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY, EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A DONKEY.’”
Matthew 21:5/Zechariah 9:9

This is a remarkable insight into the nature of God. How did He enter Jerusalem? He came in humble. He did not come in like a privileged king. Nor with a demonstration of royalty.

It is a remarkable thing to consider that an all-powerful God would enter in this way. The One that has always been. The One that created the universe with His words. The One that knows the beginning from the end – chose to sit upon a donkey for all to see. Beloved, our God is gentle and humble of heart.

That is why Yeshua said, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I AM GENTLE and Humble in HEART, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS” (Matthew 11:29).

The eternal God has put Himself in a position that you and I can touch His heart. When we voluntarily choose to love Him, it moves Him. He is warmed by our feelings. He is affected by our love. We can actually add to Father’s happiness when we choose to love Him, please Him, and put Him first. Even though God is complete and needs nothing. He is moved by our love. Why? Because He is gentle and humble. God has put Himself in a position where you and I can touch Him.

We can even make Him weep.

“He said, ‘Where have you laid him (Lazarus)?’ They said to Him, ‘Lord, come and see.’ Jesus wept.”
John 11:34-35

“When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it” (Luke 19:41).

We can either move Father to joy or to tears. That is God’s genius in creating You and I in His own image. We can touch this humble and gentle One that rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.

The question is, what will we do? Will we humble ourselves also?

If so, pray this with your whole heart, “Jesus, I want to love You. I want to touch Your heart. I want to put You first. I want to do whatever I need to do so we can be united together – as one. Father, prepare me to meet Yeshua at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Help me to walk with humility, gentleness of spirit, full of mercy, and full of peace – just like You.” Amen
