O Lord, You have searched me and known me.…Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, You know it all. You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.
—Psalm 139:1, 4–6
God knows every thought that comes to our mind. He knows every impulse of our personality. He sees us right where we are, and He’s intimately acquainted with all our ways.
Take that in for a moment, beloved one. God is closer than close to you, and He knows you better than you know yourself. If you’re married, God knows you better than your spouse because He knows your thoughts, even if you don’t speak them. To say it another way, before you say a word, He knows exactly what you’re thinking and what you’re going to say. Only God truly knows you.
Notice what David says next: “You have enclosed me behind and before.” Our lives are completely sealed in the Holy Spirit. In Yeshua, we are enclosed all around. Despite the wrong things we think and say, His hand is upon us. Just as David said, so too we say, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me”!
Meditating on this invisible reality can make us feel extreme security. The words David spoke, “You have enclosed me,” remind me of Paul’s words to us in Ephesians 1:13, “You were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit.” May you and I fully grasp this revelation.
