“And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!””

The Bible says we have received the spirit of adoption by which we cry out, “Abba, Father” (Rom. 8:15). It is important for us to recognize that God is not just some Being in the sky somewhere whom we can pray to when we have a need. No, He saved you and me to bring us into a son/daughter relationship with Him.

When the Father brought us to Himself, He placed us in Jesus. And because you and I are in Jesus, we are God’s sons and daughters. Can you comprehend the magnitude of that?

Think about this: All the Father’s love is focused on Jesus—He is the Son of God. Jesus is in the bosom of the Father, and it has always been that way. All the Father’s love is focused on Him, but you are now in Jesus, and because of that all His love is focused on you in like manner.

I want you to know today, beloved, that the Father loves you and me with a love that is hard to comprehend. But we should pray to understand it—“that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God” (Eph. 3:17–19).

Father God, I long to know the breadth and length and height and depth of Your love, though it surpasses my ability to comprehend. I ask that You deepen my understanding of Your heart for me. I pray that You will fill me up with the fullness of who You are.
