“Truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”
— Matthew 17:20
We want to see God move. We want to see miracles happen. We want the Lord to show up in our lives. But many times miracles won’t happen and mountains won’t move unless you and I exercise faith, and that may involve taking a risk.
Let me give you an example of what I mean. One year during Hanukkah, a woman attended services at the congregation I lead in Toledo, Ohio. She had not been able to attend for several months because she had been in a wheelchair, and even on that night, she couldn’t stand up straight for even ten seconds without falling. But she came to the service in the wheelchair that Hanukkah night, and when I saw her, somehow I just knew that her being in the wheelchair was of the devil. I don’t believe all sickness is a direct attack from the devil, but I knew in my spirit that this woman being wheelchair bound was the work of Satan.
Faith rose up in my heart, and I went up to the woman in front of the entire congregation and said, “Silver and gold have I none, but what I have I give to thee. In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, get out of that wheelchair. Stand up and walk.” The woman bounced out of that wheelchair and walked from one end of the sanctuary to the other, praising God!
For that miracle to have happened, I had to have faith. I had to take the risk of saying in front of every- body, “In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, stand up and walk.” I could have been fearful and thought, “If nothing changes, I’ll look like an idiot.” But I didn’t let pride or fear stop me from stepping out in faith.
Sometimes God is waiting for you to take action. I want to encourage you: don’t just wait for God to show up. Exercise your faith because God moves through faith, and oftentimes walking in faith involves taking a risk.
Father God, Your Word says that if I have faith the size of a mustard seed, I will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to me. Holy Spirit, help me to walk in this level of faith. Let me not be hindered by fear or pride but have the courage to obey Your leading.
