Expect Christ’s Return

“Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.”
—Matthew 24:42

The last thing Yeshua HaMashiach told us in the Scriptures is, “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done” (Rev. 22:12).

Jesus is going to return when mankind is not looking for Him. He said His coming will be like when a thief enters someone’s house at night. No one expects a thief to be coming. If they expected the thief, they’d stay up all night standing guard. That’s what Jesus’ coming will be like. He is going to come at a time when the world is not looking for Him. He could come any day—even right now. Jesus said, “Behold, I come quickly,” meaning get ready. We need to live in such a way that we are ready for Him whenever He comes, even if it’s today.

Beloved, are you ready? Have you dealt with every known sin in your life? Are there things in your life that God has been speaking to you about, things you know you need to repent of but have not? To repent means to turn from darkness, disobedience, and evil to follow Jesus and walk in His ways. I’m speaking to myself as much as to you when I ask, Are there things in our lives that we know need to be changed and yet haven’t changed?

Ask yourself what would happen if Jesus came right now. Are you confident that you would go to heaven? The Bible says, “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able” (Luke 13:24). Messiah said to be on the alert. Be ready. Not everybody who confesses that they believe in Yeshua’s return will be saved by Him. Jesus illustrated this when He gave us the parable of the ten virgins. All ten were waiting for their bridegroom, but only five had prepared themselves and were able to enter his presence when he finally came. (See Matthew 25:1–13.)

Jesus is coming back, and we must be ready. Let’s prepare in advance for the coming of our King.

Father God, I don’t want to be like the five virgins who got tired of waiting for the bridegroom. I want to be awake and expecting the return of my Messiah. Father, the apostles lived with a supernatural expectation that Jesus would return in their lifetime. Help me to also live with a supernatural expectancy that Jesus will return in my lifetime. Come quickly, Lord Yeshua.
