“Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”
—Deuteronomy 7:9
Beloved, your walk with God affects more than just you. This is what the Torah is telling us in Deuteronomy 7:9. When we who have influence over other people’s lives are walking with God, the blessing on our lives spills down into the lives of those around us.
In this particular scripture the Lord is speaking about generational blessing. But I believe that in a more general way God uses each of us to bring sanctification, if not entirely then partially, to those who are close to us. This is evident in the New Testament when the apostle Paul says a believer who is married to an unbeliever can be a source of sanctification for the unbelieving spouse (1 Cor. 7:13–14).
Your relationship with God has a much bigger impact than you probably think. You are not serving God just so you can live a blessed life in Him. Your relationship with God is also blessing those around you. You can be a source of light to many. So don’t just live for yourself. Don’t just think about your needs or wants. Think bigger. Be mindful of the impact your choices today will have on those around you and even future generations.
Soon we are going to be standing before Jesus being rewarded according to what we have done. So I encourage you today to live for God. Be a light. Sometimes it will bring people to Yeshua, sometimes it will separate you from close relationships, but it will always matter for eternity. God is going to use you to touch lives.
Father God, help me to realize the power that I have in and through You to affect and bless others.
