“Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance.”
— Isaiah 55:1–2
What are you working for? How much of your energy, your time, and your resources is being given over to things that will not last? The older I get, the more I see how quickly everything changes. Beauty fades; money situations change; health conditions change; jobs change. Everything based on circumstances is always changing. In fact anytime people find their peace or sense of identity in something circumstantial, they are setting themselves up for a fall because circumstances never stay the same.
This is why the Lord asks in Isaiah 55:2, “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?” Beloved, don’t give yourself over to things that do not last. The Bible says heaven and earth will pass away, but God’s Word will never pass away (Matt. 24:35). I want to encourage you to be sold out completely to God. Don’t hold anything back from Him. Give Him your time, talent, and treasure. Give your life entirely over to Him.
Jesus said, “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able” (Luke 13:24). Here Jesus is commanding us to call out to Him while we can, because at the end of the day, everything but Him is fleeting and temporary.
Don’t hold back. “Eat what is good.” Seek God with your whole heart, and you will delight yourself in abundance.
Father God, help me not to hold back but to give You my whole heart. Give me a desire for You that exceeds temporary satisfaction or accomplishments. By Your grace may I find delight in Your abundance.
