All the Philistines went up to seek out David; and when David heard of it, he went down to the stronghold.
— 2 Samuel 5:17
When David heard he was under attack, he didn’t just passively sit there and let the enemy succeed. He went down to the stronghold and sought the Lord. He answered the attack aggressively by taking action.
Often when we are under attack, we do the opposite. We are passive and just let the enemy beat us up. Whether it is a mental or physical attack, too many of God’s people put their heads in the sand and hope it just goes away. David didn’t do that. He went to God’s stronghold and looked to the Lord. He began to pray and encourage himself in the Word of God. He responded to the attack by digging down deep into the Lord, and his actions shifted the atmosphere and led the Israelites to victory.
Beloved one, God did not create us to be on the defense against the forces of darkness. He made us to be on the offense! Yeshua aggressively came against the forces of darkness. “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.”
When the enemy has us under siege, we need to get in motion like David did, because motion will change our emotion. By doing something—adjusting our attitude, shifting our focus, going into prayer, and declaring God’s Word—we will change the spiritual atmosphere around us and overcome!
