“For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.”
— Psalm 30:5
Sometimes because of the Father’s love for us, He will discipline us. The Bible tells us that the Father disciplines every son and daughter He receives and that no discipline feels good when we’re going through it, but the end result is peace (Heb. 12:4–11). Discipline is painful for a relatively short time, but the joy that comes afterward lasts a lifetime.
It is a beautiful thing that our Father loves us so much that He will discipline us. I personally find a great deal of security in this. I actually pray for His discipline because even though it may hurt for a little while, it will keep me on the straight and narrow path that leads to blessing. I would rather that than for the Father not to discipline me and I end up going astray without even knowing it and then find myself lost, ruined, and broken in life.
So you see, beloved, the discipline of the Lord is a gift. We should pray for it. We should thank God for it. We should love Him for it. The pain of His discipline lasts just for a little while, but joy and peace come in the morning and last for a lifetime. I wouldn’t trade that for anything. Would you?
Father God, I thank You for Your discipline because Your Word says that You discipline those You love. Help me to never view Your correction as a bad thing, but adjust my perspective so I see it as the gift that it is.
