The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.
—Exodus 14:14
The ministry of God in our lives is like a multifaceted diamond. He is applying the ministry of the Holy Spirit to our lives in different ways during different seasons.
For example, in 1 Chronicles 14, after David defeated the Philistines, he said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.” In other words, David was involved in winning the victory. But in today’s verse, we see another facet of the Lord’s activity. Father God told Israel to stand still, keep silent, and just watch what He alone was going to do.
There are times when God is asking us to step out, get busy, and take action. And there are other times when the Lord is telling us to be still and watch Him move. The Bible says, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Do you know what season you are in right now? Is this a season when the Holy Spirit is prompting you to stand up, take action, and not be passive? Or is it a season when the Lord is telling you to stop striving, be still, and know that He is God?
Beloved one, God is calling us to abide in Him. That may mean taking action or standing still. We must learn to discern the inner workings of the Holy Spirit as well as the season we’re in.
