For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
— Ephesians 2:10
It’s important for us to realize that we are called to serve in this world. God created us and is continuing to form us to do good works and bear fruit. We’re called to make a difference and build God’s kingdom in the earth. We don’t live under the Law or base our salvation on our performance, but the fruit of being alive in the Spirit is doing good works.
Today’s verse goes on to tell us that the good works we are called to walk in were actually prepared for us in advance. For example, when you speak a word of wisdom to someone, somehow that encounter and relationship were actually prepared beforehand. God ordained for you to cross paths so you could impart into him or her what the Holy Spirit has sown in you. I know that’s a lot to get our heads wrapped around. But we’re dealing with the God of eternity here!
Beloved one, let’s be cognizant today that God created good works beforehand for us to walk in. Let’s not miss these opportunities. We will be rewarded for everything we do in Yeshua’s name, even things that seem insignificant like giving somebody a glass of water. Scripture encourages us to “be on the alert, stand firm in the faith…be strong.” So let’s stay awake and make the most of each day.
