“For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.”
— Matthew 25:29
In the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25, the talents represent the ability God has given us to bless others and build His kingdom. God dictates the talents one is born with, but we determine what we do with them. In other words, God defines the amount each of us is given, but we determine how much we increase those talents, whether thirtyfold, sixtyfold, or a hundredfold.
Many of us desire to be found faithful and please our heavenly Father. But just because we want to multiply our talents a hundredfold does not mean we will do it. “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” If we are going to multiply what God has given us, we must make a conscious decision to sell out to Jesus by letting go of everything and completely surrendering to God.
I remember hearing a preacher share a story about a time when the Lord commissioned him to do something. As he was on his knees, he said, “Yes, Lord, I will do it.” And the Lord spoke to him clearly and said, “Many have said they would do it, but none did.”
Beloved one, you are in control of your will. Do not pass off on God what He is calling you to do. Too many of us say, “Well, whatever God wills.” Sometimes it’s not about what God wills but about what you and I will choose to do. To bear a hundredfold fruit, we must completely sell out.
