But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
—Romans 5:8
Paul’s words remind us of a fundamental truth: God loves us so much that while we were still sinners, He sent Jesus to die for us. Think about this for a minute. When we were in a totally degenerate state, not looking for God or even thinking about Him, Father God sent His Son to redeem and save us. When we had nothing to our credit, God loved us, and He loves us with this same love every second of every day.
This is so important to remember because sometimes, somehow along the way we can start to think God’s love for us depends on our works. Subtly we begin to believe God loves us if we are obedient enough. But the reality is that even while we were still dead in our transgressions and sins, God sent His Son to die in our place simply because He loves us.
And today’s good news is that His love for us will never change. He’ll never love you any more or less than He does right now. If God loved you even when you were estranged from Him, you can be confident that He loves you right now and He’ll love you for the rest of eternity.
Beloved one, let’s open our hearts and, though the enemy does not want us to, receive God’s unconditional grace and love into our lives. This involves making a conscious decision to believe.
