Be Bold for Jesus

“What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.”
— Matthew 10:27

Friends, there is no such thing as a secret Christian. There is no such thing as a believer who never shares his faith. When Jesus was on this earth, one of the last instructions He gave was for us to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). That is the Great Commission, and it is for everyone.

You and I have an assignment on the earth to be bold witnesses for Jesus. We are called to extend and expand the kingdom of God. Jesus said in today’s verse that we are to shout from the rooftops whatever He whispers in our ears. The apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:20 that we are Christ’s ambassadors, entreating the world to be reconciled to God. And Jesus said in Matthew 5:13–14 that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world, so we ought to let our light shine. In these passages and others God has made His will for us clear.

So I want to encourage you: don’t be timid. God has not given you a spirit of fear (2 Tim. 1:7), so be a bold witness for Him. Jesus said, “Whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory” (Luke 9:26). Beloved, we can’t keep quiet. We need to speak of Jesus to those we are in relationship with here on earth. We need to talk about Jesus at the grocery store, at the salon, at the gym. Wherever we go, Jesus should be on our lips. We should be His fragrance in the world.

Yes, we need wisdom in how to approach people, but we can’t be stalled by fear and analysis paralysis. We should always be directing people to God, even in small ways. When someone asks how you’re doing, you can say, “I’m doing well, praise God!” Or you can simply offer to pray for someone and remind him that Jesus loves him. Directing people to Jesus is our assignment on the earth. Let’s love God by doing what He instructed us to do.

Father God, You have called me to be a bold witness for You. Help me to never shrink back from my assignment. Father, I ask that You give me divine opportunities to tell those I come in contact with about You. Show me how to make witnessing for You a natural part of my lifestyle.
