“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God…emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and…humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death. “
— Philippians 2:5–8
Jesus gave up His own will, His own desires, His own rights in order to serve the Father. This call is the call on our lives as well. God is asking you and me to give up our personal interests to put Him first.
Beloved one, we do not belong to ourselves. Too many of us think we’re in this world to fulfill ourselves or simply enjoy life. But we have been called to put on the mind of Christ. We want to develop the mindset of Jesus, who humbly took on the form of a servant and obeyed His Father even to the point of death. As a result, “God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow…and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”
Jesus said to the Father, “Not My will, but Yours be done.” Will you do the same? Will you give up your rights, desires, and preferences and instead say yes to the Father and follow Him? There’s a great reward for those of us who will put our own desires under our feet and choose to obey Him instead.
