“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
—Ephesians 6:12
I’ve known for decades that the Word of God says my fight is not against flesh and blood—it’s not against people or circumstances but against a living force of darkness. But how often have I failed to live that out? How often have I thought and behaved as though my enemy is a specific circumstance or a particular person?
Beloved, we need to war to gain spiritual sight, revelation, and understanding so we will comprehend that our true battle is not against flesh and blood. You see, the real battle is not in what’s going on; it’s in the way that we perceive what’s going on. That’s the whole key. This is what happened when Jesus was being tried before Pilate. (See John 19:1–16.) Pilate couldn’t understand why Yeshua wasn’t afraid of him. Pilate told Jesus, “Don’t You know that I have the power to crucify You? Why aren’t You afraid? Why aren’t You trembling before me?” Jesus said, “You would have no power over Me unless it was given to you from above.” Jesus understood that His fight was not against flesh and blood.
God is calling us into the next level of revelation. Our warfare is not in the low level of flesh and the material world. Our warfare is in our comprehension of what is going on—this is where we need deeper revelation. Whatever your battle is right now, are you perceiving it through the lens of the power of darkness or through the eyes of the Holy Spirit? Remember, two people experience the same event in totally different ways. What is the difference? Their perception.
Father God, I’m thankful that You have raised me up in Yeshua. Give me a spirit of wisdom and revelation to comprehend the real battle and to see things through the eyes of the Spirit. I declare that my war is not against flesh and blood, people, and circumstances. I am in a spiritual battle. Open my eyes today, Father, so I can walk in the light of truth and in the victory of King Jesus.
